Waar is de geolocation feature in Office Communicator?
Social Geolocation apps en websites zijn al een aantal jaar erg in populariteit aan het groeien. Google heeft Lattitude als dienst, Nokia heeft Friend View. Sinds kort is Foursquare helemaal booming, een sociale geolocatie app die binnen Nederland helaas alleen nog in Amsterdam beschikbaar is. Maar hoe staat het met de geo toepassingen voor Unified Communications, of nog specifieker Office Communicator? Zou een dergelijke toevoeging wel nuttig zijn en wat zou je er allemaal mee kunnen bereiken?
Deze vragen kwam bij mij naar boven tijdens de sneak preview presentatie van Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2010, kortwerg MOSS 2010. Daarin toonde de presentator ook de koppeling met Office Communicator. Maar wat ik daarin vooral miste was de integratie van locatie gestuurde mogelijkheden. Het lijkt me een zeer nuttige toevoeging aan de huidige Unified Communications platformen. Hieronder nog even kort de definitie van Unified Communications volgens Wikipedia:
Unified communications (UC) is the integration of real-time communication services such as instant messaging (chat), presence information, IP telephony, video conferencing, call control and speech control with non real-time communication services such as unified messaging (integrated voicemail, e-mail, SMS and fax).
